Taking the complex out of emotions
What are complex emotions? They are typically the emotions that individuals experience, but are often discouraged from experiencing, or the feelings that are felt, but believed to be inappropriate.
Although experiencing strong emotional reactions is a common aspect of being human, certain emotions have become stigmatized to the extent that expressing anger in response to clear injustices, or shedding tears of sadness when mourning the loss of a loved one, is met with skepticism.
Anger, depression, envy, resentment, sadness, jealousy, fear, distrust, disgust, and guilt are fundamental components of the human emotional spectrum. These emotions are universal and prevalent among individuals. The challenge lies not in the emotions themselves, but in the societal norms that promote some emotions while condemning others, thereby inhibiting individuals from freely expressing themselves in a healthy manner.
Your emotions do not define who you are as a person. We are designed to experience a range of emotions, rather than remaining in one constant state. Emotions are energetic states that require release, even if we try to ignore them. As a Somatic Practitioner and Mind Body Coach my role is to assist you in recognizing and addressing any unprocessed emotions or energy that may manifest as thoughts, physical sensations, symptoms, emotions, memories, or images and explore pathways for releasing this energy, such as mobilization and expression.
Our original form of communication consisted of sound, sensation, breath, and movement, long predating spoken language. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to expression or mobilization. At times, verbal communication may not adequately convey our feelings. Engaging in alternative forms of expression such as expressive and movement arts, individuals can explore the realms of magic, mystery, symbolism, and freedom and form, offering powerful outlets for releasing emotional energy and articulating the inexpressible .
